Opportunity Snapshot
This position offers you the opportunity to showcase your talents at a high level; variable marketing is always important but particularly so in the current market, and you will interact with executive leaders on a regular basis. As we move our North American corporate headquarters to New Jersey we're taking a proactive approach to hiring impact players not only for today, but also for tomorrow: we're looking for ambitious professionals who can learn the business, grow and contribute beyond their job description, and move their career to the next level. You will join one of the most respected brands in the automotive industry and a company with a collegial and collaborative culture.
You will handle all aspects of retail incentive offers, including research, development and design, and communicating programs to dealers. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have knowledge of and experience with product marketing, variable marketing, and retailer concepts and practices, ideally in the automotive industry. You also will need solid analytical skills. We're looking for a professional who, like the best people at Volvo, combines subject matter expertise with strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders, influence others, think systematically, and communicate effectively.
Volvo Cars North America supports some 400 sales outlets and service centers, delivering premium cars known for safety, environmental responsibility, quality, design, and pure driving pleasure. Volvo. For life.
What Else You'll Bring to the Table
In addition to the qualifications detailed above, we're looking for a professional who:
Has a bachelor's degree, ideally in Business Administration, Management, or Marketing.
Exhibits a future-orientation and takes a holistic outlook to business matters.
Leads by example, fostering teamwork and mutual support.
Finds innovative ways to produce results and effectively persuades others to adopt/accept ideas.
Brings together different perspectives and approaches, blending and building where appropriate.
Keeps people informed and keeps channels of communication open.
Writes in a clear and concise manner and makes effective formal presentations.
Is able to utilize PCs to communicate, analyze data, track trends, and retrieve relevant information.
Preferred but not required:
Lease and finance experience, preferably with big ticket or luxury retail products.
A broad knowledge of the automotive business at both retail and wholesale levels.
What's in It for You
High visibility -- in the highly competitive auto industry, variable marketing deals carry a great deal of tactical urgency. It won't be unusual for our President to stop by your desk and ask for information or an ad hoc analysis. Your successes will be noticed in short order, and you may find yourself invited to a number of key meetings.
Career development -- you bring the independence and resourcefulness, and we'll provide the opportunities to learn, grow, and shine. Many Volvo employees move from one position to another, enabling us all to develop a broad understanding of the business and add greater value to the company.
Great work environment -- a lot of companies talk about culture, but at Volvo our values are central to the way we do business, and they have been since our founding 80 years ago. We welcome everyone's input in a team-oriented atmosphere and, while we are objective driven, we are also a group of humans who care about one another.
Pride -- you will be part of the company that produces some of the world's most highly regarded automobiles, and associated with a prestigious name that instantly triggers associations with safety, quality, and driving excitement.
Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and bonus incentive program, we offer a very attractive benefits program. For example, while other employers are scaling back healthcare benefits, ours remain highly competitive.
More About Your Role
If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.
We are moving Volvo Cars North America (VCNA) headquarters from Irvine, CA to Rockleigh, NJ, and you'll be starting fresh with a large number of new Volvo employees. A core group of tenured employees also will make the move. The team in Rockleigh will be on the smaller side at about 60, and we're hiring people with both depth and breadth, people who can make an impact as we take on the challenges of the toughest auto industry environment in 20 years.
Reporting to the Manager of Variable Marketing, you will join department that also includes three other Analysts and Specialists. Each member focuses on a particular area of responsibility. In a nutshell, you will support the development of incentive offers and communicate incentive program parameters that enable VCNA to achieve volume and profitability targets while protecting brand and residual value.
You'll handle all aspects of the offer development process, including:
Analyzing and interpreting market and financial data to determine the right balance between volume and margins.
Developing and designing retail offers, translating the financials into sales language. This will include developing business cases to support your recommendations, working with Volvo Car Finance, and the advertising department.
Communicating incentive parameters to dealers, via writeups and our network of regional Market Managers, and providing supporting materials to effectively employ incentive programs against the competition.
Ensuring systems and processes are in place for dealers to request and receive payouts.
We have a forecasted VM plan, although we also remain responsive to opportunities in the market. Requests for new programs typically originate at the corporate level or from the regions, and you'll develop both national and regional programs. Programs may cover leasing, cash, finance programs, bonus programs, programs for sales teams in the dealerships, and more.
We have program templates and financial models already in place, so you won't be reinventing the wheel all the time. Just the same, we'll look to you to bring a level of innovation in spotting opportunities in the data and identifying potential process improvements.
Keys to Success
As you might expect in such a transition, we'll look to you to remain flexible as we establish process and procedures as well as bring a number of new people up to speed in the new venue. We're bringing the best of Volvo systems and practices, but if you have the spirit we're looking for, you see the opportunity behind the challenge: top performers can make an impact by taking a proactive approach to learning quickly and bringing forward ideas. In addition, in order to be an outstanding Offer Development Specialist, you will:
Combine your analytical skills and technical expertise with the soft skills to present and "sell" your programs to internal customers.
Bring the communication and relationship skills to interact effectively with various stakeholders, such as picking up the phone, calling a dealer, and bouncing around some ideas.
Remain willing to question the status quo; for example, if numbers just don't look right, you'll bring it to the Manager's attention.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
