We're looking for a professional who, like the best people at Volvo, combines subject matter expertise with strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders, influence others, think systematically, and communicate effectively.
Volvo Cars North America (VCNA) supports some 400 sales outlets and service centers, bringing a passionate and value-driven approach to delivering premium cars known for safety, environmental responsibility, quality, design, and pure driving pleasure. A bachelor's degree with concentration in Marketing, Business, Finance or Accounting preferred.
Good knowledge of market analysis concepts and practices acquired through education and/or industry experience.
Basic knowledge of statistics and statistical software applications.
Superior analytical skills, including the ability to see patterns in data, recognize inconsistencies or errors, and develop coherent conclusions from disparate resources.
The ability to communicate, persuade, and create effective presentations.
Proficiency with specialized automotive software, including mTab, PIN, and JATO.
The ability to prioritize and handle several tasks and responsibilities simultaneously
Business presentation and writing skills.
Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
The ability to work cross functionally with various departments within VCNA.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
What's in It for You
Great team environment -- in the Brand Business and Product Strategy group we believe that together we can achieve more than the sum of each person's individual contributions. In addition to running flat, we invest time in brainstorming and dialoging, challenging one another's ideas to make them even stronger. We all stay abreast of what the others are doing, and we step up to help each other in peak periods.
Career development -- we are constantly looking for new ways to market our brand (such as exploring how non-automotive companies, like Cartier and Chanel, market premium brands), and you'll expand your understanding of marketing on a continuous basis. You will have opportunities to present to senior management and you always will get credit for your insights and ideas. Your success in this role could set you up to pursue a Brand Manager position.
Value-driven success -- a lot of companies talk about culture, but at Volvo our values are central to the way we do business, and they have been since our founding 80 years ago. We welcome everyone's input and, while we are objective driven, we are also a group of humans who care about one another.
Experience the Volvo difference first hand -- you will be part of the company that produces some of the world's most highly regarded automobiles, and associated with a prestigious name that instantly triggers associations with safety, quality, and driving excitement. But you won't have to take our word for it! Because of the importance of the brand strategy group's contribution, we have the privilege of driving different Volvo models. In this way we are able to provide valuable first-hand input to corporate headquarters in Sweden regarding the US market.
Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and bonus incentive program, we offer a very attractive benefits program. For example, while other employers are scaling back healthcare benefits, ours remain highly competitive.
More About Your Role
We are moving Volvo Cars North America (VCNA) headquarters from Irvine, CA to Rockleigh, NJ, and you'll be starting fresh with a large number of new Volvo employees. A core group of tenured employees also will make the move. The team in Rockleigh will be on the smaller side at about 60, and we're hiring people with both depth and breadth, people who can make an impact as we take on the challenges of the toughest auto industry environment in 20 years.
Reporting to the Manager, Launch and Life Cycle Marketing, you will join a department that also includes Brand Managers and a Product Launch Manager. The department manages all of Volvo's car lines, including launches of new vehicles, prices, and concepts, and ongoing management of vehicle lifecycles.
While you will invest the largest part of your time in pricing analysis, you'll contribute in other areas as well. Pricing will include assisting in the development of pricing proposals for current and future products and providing input into vehicle pricing guideline analysis. You also will coordinate development, approval, and communication of pricing bulletins. Other activities will include:
Providing the department with daily competitive info that goes beyond what we obtain from external sources like JATO, covering not only metrics but also strategy. This will include developing Volvo and competitive vehicle pricing ladders.
Supporting the P-SPEC process, in which we monitor various key metrics such as sales, options, and packages, and then recommend actions to our sales teams regarding both the current and next model years. We're taking a much more proactive approach in this area and you'll play an important role in this high profile initiative.
Managing pure info regarding products and product changes, updating internal and external databases and ensuring information is consistent. You also will inform people throughout the company when info is added or updated.
Performing ad hoc analyses for monthly product decision meetings and in response to requests from other departments within VCNA or Volvo Cars Corporation in Sweden. These analyses will involve sales, take rates, and more.
Keys to Success
As you might expect in such a transition, we'll look to you to remain flexible as we establish process and procedures as well as bring a number of new people up to speed in the new venue. We're bringing the best of Volvo systems and practices, but if you have the spirit we're looking for, you see the opportunity behind the challenge: top performers can make an impact by taking a proactive approach to learning quickly and bringing forward ideas. In addition, in order to be an outstanding Marketing Competitive Analyst, you will:
Share our passion for our products and get to know all our car lines inside out; this is one important way the brand strategy group adds value to the company.
Bring not only the technical expertise to deliver the numbers, but also the business savvy to provide contextual insights.
Truly enjoy engaging in dialog and brainstorming, ready to defend your own ideas and challenge those of others, but also remaining open to the challenges others will pose to your ideas.
Demonstrate initiative both in seeking out new information (blogs, articles, etc.) as well as in sharing that information with the team.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
